APPLETON (WKOW) -- Fox Cities School officials are updating guidelines to ban e-cigarettes on school grounds.
Their reason for the ban is to keep their children safe and healthy. E-cigarettes are plastic and metal devices resembling traditional cigarettes. A liquid nicotine solution is heated in a disposable cartridge, creating vapor that is inhaled.
Some Fox Cities schools already prohibit tobacco-related products, which include smoking and smokeless products. Other schools are now revising their policies to include e-cigarettes.
An assistant superintendent with the Appleton Area School District says e-cigarettes haven't been a huge problem, but they have appeared and officials want students to know they're not acceptable.
