MADISON (WKOW) -- The Assembly Committee on Criminal Justice approved an amended version of Assembly Bill 409 late Thursday, exempting Milwaukee police from the independent review process in officer-involved shooting investigations.
The amendment states a law enforcement agency from another county, or the Division of Criminal Investigation, will investigate officer-involved deaths. Therefore, the review panel called for in the bill is scrapped.
The amended bill passed the committee in a 7-3 vote.
