Polar Dash gets kids to be active in the winter

MADISON (WKOW) -- Families took the chance to be active and have fun outside despite the cold weather.

Meriter Monona hosted its annual Polar Dash on Saturday.  Kids got the chance to race around a snowy track while pulling a stuffed bear on a sled.

Meriter spokesperson Leah Huibregtse says, "It can be tough to be active in the winter... it's cold... it's a lot easier to stay inside on the couch.  We want to remind people that it's easy to get out, have fun, be active."

In addition to the dash, kids could bring their favorite stuffed animal to a Bear Clinic.  This gave the kids a chance to have fun at the doctor's office.  The bears received a head-to-toe check-up by Meriter doctors.  Huibregtse says the doctor's office can be scary for kids and hopefully the Bear Clinic showed them the doctor's office can be exciting.
