MADISON (WKOW) -- Sen. Tim Cullen (D-Janesville) is reacting to Republican Sen. Dale Schultz's retirement announcement.
He issued the following statement on Monday:
"The State Senate is losing just the kind of member that it desperately needs to have right now.
"As a friend and a colleague, I certainly understand and respect Sen. Schultz's decision. The sad reality is that we seem to have gotten to a point in Madison where representing your district and your conscience takes a back seat to supporting your party. Dale would never embrace that philosophy.
"I have traveled with Sen. Schultz in his district and I absolutely believe he could have won if he had decided to run, but I understand and respect his decision to leave now.
"Dale has certainly left an imprint on this institution. His departure will leave a lasting void in the Legislature."
