WAUSAU (WKOW) -- A former Langlade County deputy sheriff is now convicted of sexually assaulting a child.
Michael Brayton (26), of Gleason, made a plea deal with Marathon County prosecutors and pleaded guilty to second-degree sexual assault of a child. Although 21 other counts, including child enticement, were dismissed, some may be considered during his sentencing in April.
The Assistant District Attorney says exposure charges involving three other girls were dismissed due to a recent state appeals court ruling stating sending photos of genitals in a text message is not considered exposure under the law.
The maximum Brayton can spend behind bars for second-degree sexual assault of a child is 40 years.
