Intoxicated driver arrested after hit and run in Madison

MADISON (WKOW) -- A 27-year-old Waterloo man is facing multiple charges, including his fourth offense of drunken driving, after a hit and run accident in Madison Monday afternoon.
Madison Police say Jacob Lasiewicz is accused of causing an accident at the intersection of John Nolen Drive and Olin Avenue around 3:00 p.m.
A police report says a pickup truck hit a van owned by Meriter Hospital. Witnesses told police the pickup truck driver was temporarily slumped over the wheel following the crash, but before police arrived, he got out and took off running.
Responding officers were able to chase down the suspect. Officials say Lasiewicz had needles and other drug paraphernalia in his pockets. The arresting officer said the driver also smelled of intoxicants.
Lasiewicz insisted he had not been in a crash. He was cited for Operating While Under the Influence - 4th offense, Hit and Run, Operating While Revoked, Improper Display of License Plates, Non-registration of Vehicle, No Auto Insurance and violation of a Red Traffic Signal.
The driver of the van, a 58-year-old man, was not seriously injured in the crash.
