MADISON (WKOW) -- Cycling enthusiasts are being warned by Wisconsin DNR that fat bikes may no longer be allowed on Wisconsin snowmobile trails. Currently cyclists can use these bikes on state trails that allow biking at other times of the year unless its open for cross-country skiing.
However, DNR officials are saying that most of the state's snowmobile trail systems may now prohibit the bike use, and that cyclists should check the regulations of individual trails before heading out.
Brigit Brown, DNR state trails coordinator, says when legally operating a bike on snowmobile trails, make sure to watch for snowmobiles traveling at high speeds.
