ROCK COUNTY (WKOW) -- Snow-covered roads may be to blame for a deadly crash Thursday on US Highway 14 near Union Township.
The Rock County Sheriff's Office says 19-year-old Elizabeth Proctor of Evansville, WI was traveling northbound on 14 when she lost control of her vehicle on the slippery road.
Her 2001 Ford Escort slid sideways across the centerline and into the path of a southbound Chevy Impala.
After the broadside impact, Proctor's vehicle came to rest in the snow bank on the west side of the road.
Proctor had been wearing her seatbelt but was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two passengers in the Impala were both wearing seatbelts and were transported to the hospital, treated for minor injuries and released.
Authorities say poor road conditions were a contributing factor in the crash, which remains under investigation at this time.
Officials from the Evansville Police Department and Dane County Sheriff's Office also assisted with diverting traffic around the scene, while the Rock County Sheriff's Office Crash Reconstruction Team investigated the crash.
Highway 14 was closed from STH 59 to STH 92 for nearly four hours as a result.
