MADISON (WKOW) -- About 30 million travelers had their flights canceled or delayed last month, and the winter weather was a big factor.
An estimated 49,000 flights were canceled and 300,000 were delayed in January.
According to one estimate, weather-related costs to passengers hit two-and-a-half billion dollars. That includes extra hotel and meal costs, plus lost productivity.
The airlines did reimburse some of the additional costs, but not all because it was weather related, and wasn't the airlines' fault.
Overall, regional carriers were hit the hardest, with 67 percent of cancellations with smaller airlines.
