Three hurt in multi-vehicle crash in Rock County

EMERALD GROVE (WKOW) -- Three people were hurt when several vehicles collided Wednesday morning on Highway 14 near Emerald Grove.

Deputies with the Rock County Sheriff's Department were called to the crash scene around 8:30 a.m. They say a westbound car was going around a curve, drifted over the center line and into the path of an eastbound semi. The semi tried to swerve into the ditch, but could not, so the two vehicles hit head-on.

Deputies say the car went into the north ditch of Highway 14. The semi went into the south ditch where it caught fire.

After the first crash, another westbound car hit the rear axle of the semi trailer that had come to rest in the eastbound lane of traffic.

Deputies say the driver and passenger in the first car were taken to Mercy Hospital with minor injuries. Both were both treated and released. The driver of the second car was also treated and released from Mercy Hospital.

The Rock County Sheriff's Department says Highway 14 was closed for about five hours during the crash investigation.
