Sun Prairie cutting salt use to absolute minimum

Posted: Updated:
SUN PRAIRIE (WKOW) -- Road crews in Sun Prairie are trying to conserve the city's remaining salt supply and have begun mixing sand and aggregate with salt.

Even with this effort, the Public Works Department says applications of the aggregate mixture, or of straight rock salt will be cut back to an absolute minimum.  Signalized intersections, major hills and major curves will be the city's primary focus.

Crews will be plowing side streets more frequently to make up for the reduction in de-icing materials, but drivers are urged to be vigilant and to allow extra time to stop.  The city anticipates snow and ice build-up will happen and conditions will be slick.
