UPDATE: Sun Prairie school staff member fired for inappropriate relationship with student

SUN PRAIRIE (WKOW) -- In a message from the Sun Prairie School District, a support staff member was terminated Friday after being placed on administrative leave earlier this week, due to allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a high school student while off student grounds.

Administration was hearing a rumor of potential misconduct Tuesday evening and contacted the Sun Prairie Police Department to investigate.  The employee in question, Janet Kula, was placed on leave Wednesday.  The 17-year-old student's family has been notified of the situation and is aware of the investigation.
Kula had been employed with the district since September 2013.  with the police investigation ongoing, and to protect student confidentiality, the district cannot share further details.
Sun Prairie District Administrator, Dr. Tim Culver, states: "We never, ever want to see this type of situation happen to any student in any school."  Culver went on to say he's satisfied that in less than 24 hours from the time they learned of potential misconduct, police and high school staff began investigations and Kula was placed on leave.
SUN PRAIRIE (WKOW) --- Sun Prairie Police say a Sun Prairie school staff member is in custody for Sexual Assault of a Child by a School Staff Person.

Police say they received information from the high school administration about a inappropriate relationship between a female support staff member and a 17-year-old male student.

The staff member has been identified as Janet S. Kula.  The district web page says she is a special education assistant.

The investigation found the relationship began in November 2013 and the following month became inappropriate.

This case is under review by the Dane County District Attorney's Office.
