Former medical examiner sentenced for keeping body parts

Posted: Updated:

RHINELANDER, Wisconsin (WKOW) -- A judge has sentenced a former medical examiner, accused of taking body parts from autopsies, to a year in jail.

Traci England, 47, was sentenced Monday in Oneida County after pleading guilty last month to two counts of misconduct in public office.

England will also spend three years on extended supervision upon her release.

The former medical examiner for Oneida and Forest Counties took a plea deal in order to get charges of theft and obstructing an officer dismissed.

England previously told Oneida County investigators she kept a piece of cadaver spine during a 2012 autopsy in order to train her dog. She's also accused of keeping tissue from a body in another autopsy, performed the same day, in Forest County.
