Tom Brokaw diagnosed with cancer

LOS ANGELES (WKOW) -- Veteran news anchor Tom Brokaw has cancer.

NBC News says Brokaw was diagnosed in August with multiple myeloma.

It's a cancer affecting blood cells in the bone marrow.

Doctors are optimistic about his treatment.

Brokaw says he wants to keep his illness a private matter, but he looks forward to continuing his work.

The one-time national news anchor is now an NBC News correspondent.

He has continued to work on projects during his treatment.
