Madison committee approves protest buffer zone

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- A Madison city committee approved a plan to add a buffer zone for protesters outside of health care facilities.

The ordinance calls for demonstrations to be at least 160 feet from a clinic, and protesters to be 8 feet from patients as they walk in and out.

Critics say the plan violates their First Amendment rights.

Supporters say it strikes a balance between patient safety and free speech.
