Fitchburg man arrested for child pornography

Posted: Updated:
FITCHBURG (WKOW) -- A Fitchburg man was arrested Monday on a tentative charge of having child pornography, as police also investigate whether he took inappropriate pictures of children at the church where he worked.

Pastor Jason Mahnke of People's United Methodist Church in Oregon tells 27 News 22-year-old Brandon Finch is being investigated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and other law enforcement agencies, after authorities discovered downloaded child pornography on Finch's computer. Mahnke also says Finch took inappropriate photos at church functions of approximately six elementary and middle school-age girls.

Mahnke says Finch worked as a technology staff member at the church for four years and was fired Monday.

Mahnke tells 27 News the children in the church photos were fully clothed, but some of the photos show the children's underwear. Mahnke says those attending church functions were unaware Finch was focusing his camera inappropriately at child subjects at times.

The church will have an open meeting Sunday at noon to answer questions.

People's United Methodist Church houses "Little Angels Christian Preschool" one of seven child care centers that offers the Oregon School District's 4-year-old kindergarten program.  Tuesday, the district sent an email to parents informing them of this investigation, although Mahnke says Finch's duties did not involve the preschool.
