30-foot ice tower knocked down

MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- Its creator calls it art, but the city of Milwaukee calls it a safety hazard.

Either way, a 30-foot tall ice formation in Milwaukee is gone.

David Schardt made the tower by suspending a hose from his house and dripping water down a string.

He's spent the past couple of months slowly making it in a park next to his house.

"I just thought it'd be cool for people to see and check it out and thought it was kind of a fun experiment and the neighbors were all liking it, getting started and growing and everything," says Schardt.

But the city says the tower would be a public safety concern if it ever fell over.

It was also built on public property without permission.

Crews knocked down the tower Wednesday morning.
