MADISON (WKOW) -- State patrol troopers arrested a driver Thursday night after he led officers on a chase that ended when he jumped from a moving car with a special needs child in the back seat.

Around 5:30 p.m. a patrol officer tried to stop a car at County Road BB and Highway 51, but the driver did not comply. He led the officer on a short pursuit before abandoning the still moving vehicle. The car crashed into the garage door of an apartment building; the driver, Raymond J. Lizardi, fled on foot into the building where he was later located and taken into custody.

According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, there was a 3-year-old child with special needs in the backseat during the chase. They were uninjured from the crash, and cared for by another officer until the mother was contacted.

The driver now faces 5 charges including reckless endangerment of safety and child neglect. Authorities have yet to release his identity. Stay tuned to WKOW Channel 27 for the latest on this story.
