MIDDLEBOROUGH, KY (WKOW) -- A snake handling preacher has died this weekend after being bitten by a poisonous snake at church.
42-year-old Jamie Coots was bitten on Saturday during church services, and after refusing medical treatment died later in his home that same day. Coots and his followers believed they wouldn't be harmed by the snakes as long as they were anointed by God.
Coots' son, Cody, says if his father had lived and woken up in the hospital he would have been upset.
"he was a firm believer, he would not go to the hospital. He always told me you get bit, you either die at home or God brings you through"
This was Coot's 9th snake bite. He previously lost a finger during an attack before he had refused medical attention.
