EAU CLAIRE (WKOW) -- The driver of a van who hit and killed a man plowing snow is now behind bars.
Police Officials say the 65-year-old driver is a repeat drunken driver who was intoxicated at the time he struck the 74-year-old victim and fled the scene. The victim and his all-terrain vehicle was out in the road when he was hit on Monday around 5pm.
The victim was pronounced dead at Mayo Health Systems in Eau Claire. Several witnesses to the incident followed the van as it fled and Sheriff's deputies made the arrest near Highway 312.
The charges being recommended against the driver are homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, hit and run involving death and drunken driving-fourth offense.
