UPDATE (WKOW) --- The Richland County Sheriff says a death Tuesday in Lone Rock is unusual but not not suspicious.
The sheriff's office reports Richard M. Calandra, 53, was found dead around 8:30 Tuesday morning outside a home on Oak Street.
Calandra's friend Kalen Knudson tells 27 News he was walking by the home when he saw the man in a snowbank and called 911.
"He was right there in the snow and it was all trampled down, " says Knudson. "His face looked beat up, his hand was swollen."
Authorities say some unusual circumstances brought in the State of Wisconsin Crime Lab and the Division of Criminal Investigation to assist on the case. It originally appeared suspicious, but the sheriff says after investigating there is no danger to the public and the case is instead deemed unusual.
Richland County officials say they have not determined how Calandra died but an autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday morning.
Friends describe Calandra as an artist and jeweler who traveled throughout the country.
