Legal issues for Madison tavern turns Taco Tuesday into Ole Tuesday

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- The Old Fashioned in downtown Madison announced a new name for its Tuesday taco special after legal concerns with Taco John's.

"Taco Tuesday" will now be known as "Olé Tuesday" at the restaurant. The Old Fashioned got the name after a contest on social media.

"It stuck out almost instantly to all of us. When we were going through it, we kept going right back to that one, " the restaurant's general manager Jennifer DeBolt told 27 News. "It made a lot of sense. It's catchy. It's got a good meaning. It's 'Welcome to Tuesday' in Spanish, so it doesn't get much better than that."

The winner of the contest gets free tacos for a year.

Taco John's told The Old Fashioned it could no longer use the name "Taco Tuesday" on menus as the restaurant chain had it trademarked since 1989.

Here is more on the legal battle.
