Marquette University announces layoffs

Posted: Updated:
MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- Marquette University will be eliminating 25 staff positions to trim costs.

Faculty and staff were notified of the cutbacks in a letter Wednesday issued by Marquette's interim president, Rev. Robert Wild.  He says the cuts are part of an effort to create efficiencies so a Marquette education will continue to be affordable.

This will be the university's first workforce reduction since the mid 90's.  According to the letter, the reductions, combined with future employee turnover, retirements and not filling some vacancies, are expected to reduce their current employee base of 2,800 by 105 positions.

The university declined to reveal which department or departments are affected.
