Local fans cheer on USA Hockey Team

MONONA (WKOW) -- Despite Thursday afternoon's overtime loss, there was still plenty to cheer about during the gold medal match for the U.S. women's hockey team.

Friends and family gathered at the Silver Eagle in Monona, to cheer on four former  Badgers and a pair of Madison natives. Those watching included the aunt and uncle of Goalie, and UW-Alum Jessie Vetter.

Mary Kohr says, "We're extremely proud we've had so many twitters, so many e-mails, so many Facebook posts, everybody is behind Jessie all the way."

Former Badger Meghan Duggan scored the games first goal, but it wasn't enough as team USA lost 3-2 in overtime.

This is the second straight Olympic silver medal for the U.S. women's team, they also lost to Canada in the 2010 gold medal game.
