MADISON (WKOW) -- Wisconsin regulators are sending out a warning about an email scam that appears to be a utility bill.
The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection says it has received a handful of complaints from consumers who received a fake bill for utility services from "Energy Billing Service" or "Energy Billing System."
WE Energies has also informed the state that it has received complaints from more than 50 customers as well.
The state agency says the fake bills often are for $500, $524 or $524.30. Those who receive it are asked to click on a link to view their most recent bill, an action that could unleash a virus or lead to a scam website to obtain personal banking information.
Consumers who receive it are urged to delete it.
