CWD spreading in Dane and Iowa Counties

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says chronic wasting disease (CWD) is continuing to spread among deer in western Dane and Iowa Counties.

CWD in those areas are now in one in four male adult deer.  The DNR says the prevalence rate of about 25 percent is based on test results from 2013 in a management zone where CWD was first discovered more than a decade ago.

Year-to-year comparisons, according to the DNR, are difficult as the annual sampling isn't necessarily the same.  However, conservation officials say the trend is clear and the rate of infection continues to rise.
