Abortion opponents challenge new Madison ordinance

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- Abortion opponents filed a lawsuit Wednesday to stop a new Madison ordinance that they say limits their right to free speech.

Tuesday night, the common council passed the law creating an eight foot buffer around patients who are within 160-feet of the doors of a medical facility.
That means abortion protesters cannot get any closer than eight feet from someone walking in or out of a clinic.
Protesters would still be able to demonstrate outside the building.

The group 'Vigil for Life' filed a federal lawsuit claiming the Madison ordinance violates the First Amendment.
