Man accused of sexual assault of a child in 2002 arrested in Texas

MADISON (WKOW) -- A 40-year-old man is back behind bars nearly 12 years after he was accused of sexually assaulting a child in Madison.

A Town of Madison Police Department report says Manuel Alberto-Camposeco was arrested in Texas Wednesday morning. He is accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl back in April of 2002.

Camposeco had originally been charged back in 2002, but the charges were dismissed without prejudice when the victim did not show up to court.  The DA's office learned she was in Mexico.

But it wasn't until April 16, 2013, the victim came back to Madison to tell police she had been put on a bus alone to Mexico so she couldn't testify against Camposeco. The case was re-opened, and Camposeco was arrested on October 21, 2013.

Camposeco bailed out of Dane County Jail, sold his residence to a friend, and never returned to work. On November 5, 2013 a bench warrant was issued for his arrest after he missed court hearings.

Multiple police agencies, including the U.S. Marshal's, tried to locate Camposeco by looking at surveillance footage and conducting numerous interviews. It wasn't until February 4, when Detective Hale obtained a subpoena for documents on wire transfers, that a pattern emerged. An address in Austin, Texas was found that was believed to have a connection with Camposeco.

Detective Hale contacted an Austin Police officer, who forwarded the information to the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force.

The task force began surveillance of the target house on February 25. Authorities were able to observe a male matching Camposeco's description exiting the residence early the next morning. Camposeco eventually admitted who he was to authorities.

He was arrested and transported to the Travis County Jail on the bench warrant waiting for the extradition process through the court system.
