MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- The president of Gogebic Taconite faces charges in Spain for violating environmental laws at a mine he used to manage.
Bill Williams and two others are accused of polluting groundwater at a copper mine in southern Spain. Williams is the former water director at Cobre Las Cruces mine, an open pit mine near the city of Seville.
A law firm working for the owners of the the mine said Friday it believes Williams and the other managers will be cleared.
Gogebic Taconite is proposing to build $1.5 billion iron ore mine in Ashland and Iron counties in northern Wisconsin.
