Women's Basketball: Warhawks Earn 7th Consecutive At-Large Berth into NCAA DIII Tournament

WHITEWATER -- For the seventh year in a row, head coach Keri Carollo has guided her team to an at-large berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament.  The Warhawks, 22-4, will be making their 14th tournament appearance in program history.  UW-W will travel to the University of St. Thomas for the first two rounds of competition. They will play Concordia-Moorhead on Friday, March 7 at 5:30 pm.  St. Thomas will play Loras at 8:00 pm.  The winners will meet at 7:00 pm on Saturday for the right to advance to the Sweet Sixteen.  For more information including ticket prices, directions, game times, live video, live stats, etc., please visit UW-W's championship website.

The Warhawks won the regular season Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title with a 16-0 record.  They are led by Kaitlyn Thill(Belgium/Ozaukee) who fills up the stat line each night averaging 13 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.1 steals, and 3.9 assists per game.  Mary Merg (Greendale/Greendale) averages 12.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game while Amy Mandrell (Forsyth, IL/Maroa-Forsyth) chips in 12 points and 7.3 rebounds per contest.  Off the bench Kristen Ruchti (Brodhead/Brodhead), a midseason addition, averages 9.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game while shooting 51.1% from the floor.  The Warhawks shoot 36.8% from behind the arc and 76.5% from the free throw line.

The Cobbers, UW-W's first round opponent, are led by junior guard Alley Fisher who averages 11.8 points per contest.  Fellow starters Alexandra Lippert and Greta Walsh also average double figures, 11.2 and 10.0 points respectively.  Lippert leads the team in rebounding, averaging 6.6 a game.  The Cobbers, 21-5 and recipients of an at-large berth, are making their 19th tournament appearance.  This will be the first meeting between the two teams.
