MADISON (WKOW) -- Authorities have identified the brothers involved in a deadly shooting Monday night in Madison.

The Dane County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man who was killed as 33-year-old Fredrica Hanger of Madison. The autopsy shows Hanger died from a gunshot wound.

Madison police say the accused shooter is Hanger's brother, 39-year-old Bonnell Hanger. Police officials say Bonnell Hanger was arrested shortly after the shooting, as a suspect in the killing.

Authorities say he's been jailed on the tentative charge of a felon in possession of a firearm. Online, state court records show he was convicted of felony substantial battery in 2010.

A state official says the shooting victim was released from a nine year prison term last week.

The man's aunt, Ernestine Hanger tells 27 News there was some differences between the brothers, but the violence is difficult for family members to cope with.

"It's pretty sad for two boys to act on that. Really sad, especially family," she says.

Police spokesperson Joel DeSpain says there was an on-going dispute between the brothers, but does not specify its nature.

MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison police officials say the victim of a shooting, and the suspect in the case, are brothers.

Authorities say the 33-year old victim was found in the 1300 bock of East Wilson Monday night, after an emergency call indicated someone had been shot.

Madison Police spokesperson Joel DeSpain says the victim's 39-year-old brother was arrested a short time after responding officers arrived. DeSpain says the man was arrested on the tentative charge of a felon in possession of a firearm.

DeSpain tells 27 News there had been on-going dispute between the brothers, but not did not specify its nature.

Dane County court records show the suspect was convicted of felony substantial battery in 2010.

A spokesperson for state department of corrections tells 27 News the victim was released from a nine-year prison sentence six days before he was killed.

27 News is not identifying the suspect or victim at this time. The Dane County medical examiner has yet to release the victim's identity publicly.

MADISON (WKOW) ---  A 39-year-old Madison man is in custody after his brother was found shot in the head.

The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The suspect is tentatively charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

Suspect and victim identities will not be released until the victim is identified by the Medical Examiner.

Police responded to reports of a subject shot in the head on E. Wilson Street Monday night.

Officials tell 27 News the victim was found shot in a car.   The brother was later taken into custody.

MADISON (WKOW) -- Police in Madison are investigating the murder of a 33-year-old man on the city's near east side.

Around 7 p.m. Monday, officers were called to a home in the 1300 block of E. Wilson St. on a report that a man had been shot in the head.

Police say as they arrived, they located a potential suspect and took the person into custody. At this point, officers are calling this person a "person of interest" who will be kept in custody pending further investigation.

"We have detectives that are investigating and a lot of officers that are still processing the crime scene," said Madison Police Lt. Kelly Donahue.

The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name has not been released.

Police say it appears the man was targeted and there is no threat to the public.

Donahue indicated more information could come out Tuesday.

"Obviously we can only provide information as fast as we can investigate," she said. "We're moving along as quickly as we can."
