First lady to host 3rd kids' recipe challenge

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON (WKOW) -- First Lady Michelle Obama is once again looking for kids who can create their own healthy recipes.

The first lady is working with Epicurious and the departments of Education and Agriculture for the third Healthy Lunchtime Challenge. It ends in the summer with a kids' "state dinner" at the White House. Some of the winning recipes will be served.

The contest is open to 8- to 12-year-olds from all 50 states and six U.S. territories to submit an original recipe for a healthy, affordable and tasty lunch. Recipes must follow Agriculture Department guidelines for a healthful meal and fruits and vegetables must make up about half of the plate or recipe.

Recipes can be submitted through April 5.

More information and the contest rules can be found online.
