Stolen child support payments linked to Target breach

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- The Wisconsin Department of Children and Families is saying a number of people had their child support payments stolen after last year's Target data breach.

December 23rd the department was informed of nearly 4,000 people with debit accounts connected to their child support payments were affected, however, only a handful of cases contained fraud.

EPPIC is the company managing the debit MasterCards for Wisconsin.  The company worked with those affected to rectify the situation as quickly as possible.  Cardholders were contacted by letter and phone to let them know their new cards would be issued in early January.

Target's data breach compromised 40 million credit and debit card accounts between November 27 and December 15.
