MILWAUKEE (WKOW)-- Tourists at two National Parks in Wisconsin spent $28.4 million in surrounding communities in 2012.
According to a new National Park Service report nearly 274,000 people visited Apostle Islands National Lakeshore in Bayfield and Saint Croix National Scenic Riverway in St. Croix Falls in 2012.
The bulk of the $28.4 million was spent at Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. More than $24 million was spent in communities surrounding the park by over 163,000 visitors.
Nationally, the National Park Service says 283 million tourists to the parks spent $14.7 billion in nearby communities.
