Pug starts a fight with a police dog during a 4-hour standoff

PHOENIX, Ariz. (WKOW) -- Police officers were confronted with an unusual distraction during a tense stand-off when a pug tried to start a fight with a K-9 police dog in the middle of the standoff.

Champ, the pug, broke through the police tape and sprinted down the street while armed cops were in the middle of a four-hour siege. A gunman was in a house nearby after robbing a Subway restaurant. The gunman barricaded himself while police were outside.

Champ's owners were watching the action from their home, but couldn't do very much because police were busy in the standoff situation. Champ's owners say they were prepared to say goodbye to their beloved pet forever, fearing it would be shot by police.

Champ made it back home safe and sound.
