Millions turn off devices for National Unplugged Day

Posted: Updated:
WAUSAU (WKOW) -- Millions across the country are turning off their devices for the fifth annual National Unplugged Day.

It's an initiative started by a non-profit, and participants are encouraged to put down their Internet-connected devices, and instead focus on getting outside, reconnecting with friends and family, or focusing on new projects.

Michael Hegewald of Wausau says, "I don't think it would be too hard. But, I don't know it's just so much part of your daily life it's what you do everyday."

While Alex Denik, also of Wausau says, "I read a lot so I have other things to entertain me. I don't know, I could probably do it for a day, probably not more than a day."

For those participating -- they're encouraged to sign a pledge on the event's website and post a photo of themselves saying why they unplug.
