Ice melts, business still booming

Posted: Updated:
BAYFIELD (WKOW) -- The ice is slowly melting at the caves on the Apostle Islands.

More than 120,000 people have visited this winter and the tourists are expected to spill over into the summer.

The caves have made a huge economic impact and many are booking in advance for the warmer months.

Kelly Linehan with the Bayfield Area Chamber of Commerce says, "We're estimating about $10 to $12 million of economic impact to the Bayfield County area. Already we're seeing higher than average bookings for this coming summer."

That's good news for business owners who, before this season, weren't making ends meet financially.

Now, they're planning for a successful future.
