Eau Claire home invasion ends peacefully

Posted: Updated:

EAU CLAIRE (WKOW) -- After nearly 7 hours of negotiations, 5 hostages including 3 children are safe after a home invasion in Eau Claire. The suspect, James Albrecht, has been arrested. He was taken into custody just after 8pm Thursday night on city's side south side.

According to our affiliate, WQOW, this incident started at a Dunn County gas station when Albrecht drove off without paying.

That pursuit lead police to zero into a town home where officials say he then broke in armed with a gun and held the hostages for several hours.

Through negotiations, the hostages were released and almost immediately after, Albrecht was arrested without further incident or injuries to any parties involved.

Charges against Albrecht are pending. Officials say he has a criminal history that includes armed robberies, burglary, and possession of meth.
