Another Republican announces challenge to U.S. Rep. Ron Kind

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- A second Republican is now in the race to challenge Democratic U.S. Rep. Ron Kind in Wisconsin's 3rd Congressional District.

Chris Anderson is a former aide to Republican Sen. Ron Johnson. The La Crosse Tribune reported Friday that Anderson  made his candidacy official on Thursday and says his campaign will focus on the growing federal debt, President Barack Obama's health care law and lingering unemployment.

Republican Ken Van Doren, a retired building contractor and former Mauston City Council member, is also running.

The 28-year-old Anderson is a native of Barron and served in the U.S. Army in Afghanistan. He joined Johnson's staff in 2012.

Kind's campaign did not respond to a request for comment. Kind has held Wisconsin's third seat in Congress since 1997.
