Tonight at 10: WI mom's fight to make marijuana ingredient legal for sick son

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- A Madison-area mom fights to make a component of marijuana legal in Wisconsin so she can give it to her 9-year-old son.

Amylynne Santiago Volker says it could save his life. Nic has life-threatening seizures and traditional medications aren't helping. Amylynne is constantly scared she could lose him.

"One doctor said he would be happy to prescribe him Marinol, which is a pill form of medical marijuana and it's high in THC and I did not want that."

But there's another ingredient in marijuana, cannabidiol, or CBD, that doesn't make you high and can still help with seizures. We'll explain the difference and what the Wisconsin Assembly will vote on coming up Monday on 27 News at 10.
