MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison's official leprechaun helps patients at Saint Mary's hospital celebrate Saint Patrick's day.

Joe Herr, a local construction manager has been playing the role of "Sean Patrick" the leprechaun for eight years, and has made it an annual tradition to spread cheer at hospitals and schools.

He says he knows the struggles of having a sick child. His son Logan was born with cerebral palsy, and died when he was only four years old.

Joe says, "I know what it's like to have a child in the hospital, and if my stopping can bring a brief moment of sunshine and a little bit of cheer to somebody in need, I'm the fortunate one that can bring that."

When he's not decked out in green, Joe build's home modifications for children with special needs.

He also formed the foundation Logan's Heart and Smiles in honor of his son.
