Big day saved thanks to local firefighters

LAS VEGAS (WKOW) -- A bride in Nevada still has the 'something new' she'll wear down the aisle thanks to the hard work and quick thinking of one firefighter.

On Monday, a fire destroyed the mobile home Barbara Dorrell shares with her fiance and their 4-month-old son. Thankfully, the family escaped the flames unharmed, but most of their possessions were gone.

"Honestly, the first thing I thought about was my son's stuff," Dorrell said. "We don't make a whole lot so it's hard to replace things that you've spent so much time working for."

Captain Brad Noble was 1 of 15 firefighters on the scene. He passed items he thought the family would want to save to crew members outside through a broken window. Items like family photos, the baby's cribs, and Barbara's wedding dress.

"When they brought [the dress] out, it was more of a shock," Dorrell said. "I was like 'Oh yea! Oh my gosh, my dress.' There's not a whole lot of damage done to it. It's pretty cool that it was saved."

The big day was just three months away, but for now wedding planning has been put on hold. Captain Brad says it feels good to be able to help the family out in any way, and Barbara says she'll be forever grateful.

"It's going to symbolize a lot more than just a pretty dress on a great day," Dorrell said.
