DNA links Madison inmate to Philadelphia sexual assaults

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- A Middleton man arrested in December has now been linked to at least three violent and unsolved sexual assaults in Pennsylvania.

This past December, a Madison woman says she met 38-year-old Robert Palen online.  When they met in person at her Aberg Avenue home, she says he sexually assaulted and strangled her.

Palen was arrested and charged with strangulation and suffocation, 2nd degree sexual assault/use of force, battery, and disorderly conduct.

DNA found at the Madison crime scene was entered into a national data base.  A Philadelphia detective contacted Madison police March 11th saying there was a DNA match with a stranger assault that took place in his jurisdiction in August 2011.  The detective also indicated Palen is a suspect in two other Philadelphia sexual assaults.

Palen previously lived in Philadelphia and moved to the Madison area in 2013.  He is currently in the Dane County Jail.
