Bucks looking for new Bango

MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- JSOnline is reporting the Milwaukee Bucks are looking for a new Bango. 

Kevin Vanderkolk, who currently sports the Bango costume, is retiring at the end of the season.  The team is expected to begin their search and have posted a job description for "Bango" on the league's jobs site.

As one of the most popular mascots in local and state sports, Vanderkolk was fearless, throwing down thunderous dunks and thrilling fans. Bango also made countless public appearances in behalf of the team over the years.

The mascot job has taken a toll.  Vanderkolk tore his ACL at an all-star game and hurt both ankles on several occasions.  But the job apparently took its toll. Vanderkolk tore his ACL once at an all-star game and hurt his ankles on many occasions.  He and his wife also are raising five children.

Vanderkolk outed himself as Bango on a Hulu series called, "Behind the Mask." In that show, he was called the "LeBron James of mascots".

So, what does it take to be the mascot?  According to the job description, you need to be a world-class performer and ambassador for the Milwaukee Bucks in-arena and in the community.  The qualified person must have three years of professional or collegiate mascot experience.  Gymnastics, dance and acrobatic dunking experience is highly recommended.  Must have the ability to excite, motivate and entertain a crowd; must sport extraordinary creativity, energy and spontaneity.  The ability to relate and respond to various personalities and actions, especially children, is a plus.  The qualified person will also show a strong knowledge of the NBA and the Milwaukee Bucks.
