Disabled WI teen travels the world

EAU CLAIRE (WKOW) -- Whether it's a trip across state lines, or a visit to one of the seven wonders, there are many unknowns when you take a trip somewhere new. An Eau Claire teen hopes sharing his own adventures will inspire those living with a disability.

Gabe Schlieve is an experienced world traveler; he's been to Germany, China, Thailand, Egypt and India, just to name a few. The 19-year-old has cerebral palsy which makes walking long distances difficult, but his mom, and traveling buddy, says that doesn't slow him down.

"So many people have said to me, 'I forget that he's disabled because he does all of these things,'" Gabe's mom, Nancy says.

Gabe plans to document his world travels in a book 'The Traveling Rebel's Guide to the World.' He says he's hoping people with disabilities read his book and become inspired to go on an adventure.

"Just because you have whatever you have doesn't mean with enough effort and elbow grease that you can't travel," Gabe says.
