Controversial White Privilege Conference coming to Madison next week

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- Next week Madison will host a conference that's generating some controversy.

The founder of the White Privilege Conference that arrives in Madison this week said he's considered changing the name because of how it riles certain people, but ultimately believes it's more important to be clear about the gathering's premise.

The conference, which runs Tuesday through Saturday at Monona Terrace.

Eddie Moore, who founded the annual conference 15 years ago says, "It tackles racism that is embedded in systems and organizations, structural racism that has evolved over centuries and that people with good intentions might not even be aware of."

Moore, who serves as Director of Diversity at Brooklyn Friends School in Brooklyn, New York goes on to say, "But the way you get better is to be pushed, to have those tough discussions."

This year's conference is likely to be one of its largest ever, with more than 2,000 people expected to attend.
