Madison teacher given Award for Excellence in Music

MADISON (WKOW) -- A music teacher at a Madison elementary school is recognized for her work in the classroom.  

The Madison Symphony Orchestra and Ward-Brodt Music gave the Award for Excellence in Music Education to Margaret Jenks on Friday. The award celebrates an educator in Southern Wisconsin who displays leadership, passion, dedication, and innovation within the music classroom.

Jenks teaches K-5 general music at Van Hise Elementary and is the current chair of the Wisconsin Comprehensive Musicianship through Performance (CMP) project. She also designs and teaches programs with the Madison Youth Choirs, and conducts two performing boys choirs.
 
Jenks was awarded a commemorative plaque and a $500 prize.
