TOWNSHIP OF WESTPORT (WKOW) -- One man is dead and another has life threatening injuries after a crash off of Highway 19 and Walter Drive in the Township of Westport, near Waunakee, before 2 a.m. Saturday.

According to Dane County Sheriff's Office, the 26-year-old driver missed a curve at Walter Drive and the car hit a mailbox and large tree before stopping in a field.  The driver was flown by Medflight with life threatening injuries.  He had been wearing a seatbelt.

The passenger, a 28-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.  He was not wearing a seatbelt.

The road was closed for several hours after the accident.  The crash is still under investigation, but Dane County officials believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The names of the men have not been released.
