Overture Center holds Rising Stars talent search

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- The first of six auditions for the Overture Center's Rising Stars talent search was held on Saturday in Verona.

People of all ages performed in front of a panel of judges for a chance to play at the Overture Center later this year. There is no age limit restricting who can audition, and acts can range from singing, dancing, comedy, magic and more.

As Overture Center spokesperson Robert Chappell says, the talent search is a way for the center to showcase local talent.

"Our goal is to reach out to the community and to really shine a spotlight on some of the talent that we know is here," says Chappell. "Madison and Dane County have an unusually active and vibrant arts community, and we just really want to shine a light on that."

Certain acts from each of the six auditions will receive a callback. Finalists chosen after the callbacks will be part of a showcase in September as part of the Overture Center's 10th anniversary celebration.

Each act must be less than three minutes long. No animals or glitter are allowed to be used during a performance. The remaining auditions will be held at the following Dane County locations:

April 5 at the Waunakee Village Center
April 26 at the Goodman Community Center
June 28 at the Stoughton Center for the Performing Arts
July 19 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church
August 16 at the Westside Community Services Building
