Teen tickets police officer

Posted: Updated:
BAYTOWN, TX (WKOW) -- A Texas teen has turned the tables on a local policeman. The young girl wrote the officer a ticket when she noticed that he wasn't following the law.

Officer Tommy King was on patrol when he parked his car near the leasing office of a Baytown apartment complex. 14-year-old resident Annie James noticed the squad car, and didn't like what she saw.

"He was parked on the side of the building," Annie said. "It said it was a fire lane all the way around."

So Annie wrote Officer King a parking ticket and charged him a $10 fine payable to the building's manager.

"I came to get my car and saw the piece of paper on my windshield," Officer King said. "I took it off, read it and started laughing immediately."

King was impressed with Annie's concern for public safety, so instead of paying the $10 fine he gave the teen a $40 gift card to Toys 'R' Us.

Annie, who's new to the area, says she's never been to Toys 'R' Us, and King says he's happy to help.

"Turns out we're both from Alabama and we ended up in Texas," King said. "Now I have a new friend. I think the lesson is not to be afraid of law enforcement, we're here to help."
